'65 Steelers: "I Can't Win with this Bunch of Stiffs"

So, reportedly, said Raymond (Buddy) Parker to Art Rooney when he resigned his post as their Head Coach on September 5, 1965, two weeks prior to the season opener.

To the extent that Parker had a "bunch of stiffs" though, it was largely his own doing. Known to eschew the draft, and cut player in piques of anger during flights home from road venues, after he'd had a few, other reports had Parker resigning in a power struggle with Dan Rooney, who required Parker to cease his giving...

The 1969 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers was one of endings and beginnings.
